Kishibe

A stitched scar travels from the corner of Kishibe's mouth across his left cheek, and rough, unkempt stubble covers his jaw on a frame that stands well over six feet. His hair, black in his younger days, has gone grey in the manga, while the anime gives it a blond tone that may well be dyed. He wears piercings on both ears, two on the left and one on the right. The standard hunter's uniform and a roomy overcoat make up his usual dress, and a silver flask is rarely far from his hand.

Weathered and blunt, Kishibe approaches the job with a detached composure earned through sheer skill and power, betraying almost nothing as he works. His speech stays easy and courteous even as his deeds turn savage, and his grim humor lands deadpan enough that no one can tell whether he means it. Surprise or grief rarely register on his face or in his voice. Beneath that flat exterior, though, runs a current of feeling. While drilling Denji and Power, he warms to them despite professing to despise Fiends and Devils, confides his worry for them to Makima, and minds their cat Meowy when they travel. He cannot bring himself to look at Quanxi's body after she dies, a nod to whatever bond once tied them, even after the two had tried to kill each other hours earlier.

He reads people with unsettling accuracy, viewing the world through a hard, practical lens that leaves him very difficult to deceive despite his disheveled look and steady drinking. Years in a lethal trade have left him a little unhinged, and he holds that the hunters devils truly dread are not the bold or the mighty but the deranged ones, the people who have lost all fear. By his own account, his idea of a good time comes down to alcohol, women, and slaying Devils.

Makima rates him the most powerful figure in Special Division 4, ahead even of the Angel Devil, and Kishibe himself claims the title of strongest hunter alive, an assessment others like Hirofumi Yoshida echo. He holds three contracts, with the Claw, Knife, and Needle Devils, all judged seriously dangerous, and he once put down a pair of Quanxi's fiends by himself. His raw physicality is staggering for a human, since he can hoist Denji and Power off the floor one in each hand and wrench their necks, shatter weapons Power hardens from her blood with bare punches, and move fast enough to stab Denji repeatedly before the boy can respond. His reflexes let him slip a spear thrust at point-blank range, and his toughness carries him through a fall from a high window, which he softens by driving a knife into the wall as he drops.

For all his drunken haze, his mind is his sharpest weapon. Having outlasted decades in a profession that kills most within months, he improvises sound tactics on the spot, builds the punishing training program that turns Denji and Power into genuine fighters by exploiting how much damage they can absorb, and engineers the entire layered plot to topple Makima and cast her back into Hell. With a knife he is lethal, threading blades through flesh and hurling them with precision down a corridor, and his bare-handed fighting holds firm even against an opponent as formidable as Quanxi.
