Summary

Denji suffers another nightmare of standing before the forbidden door while Pochita warns him never to open it. At breakfast he sits heavy with grief as Power gripes about Meowy preferring him, lost in thoughts of how Aki's coffee recalls Reze and how thoroughly she broke his heart. His mood flips when Makima offers the group a paid getaway; Denji and Aki agree at once while Power scrambles for an excuse. The planning is cut short when a crowd of Devil Hunters files in.

Key Events

Makima shows footage of the Reze battle, explaining the bureau failed to censor the broadcast and that Chainsaw Man's existence is now public knowledge. As Power and Denji keep chattering about the trip, she clarifies that the vacation was a cover story and that they are actually entering protective custody to avoid assassination by foreign agents, leaving Denji horrified at the confinement ahead. She assigns Aki to Denji's security detail, announces the plan to hunt the Gun Devil within the year, and orders him not to die first. Aki recalls Angel Devil describing how devils die and revive in Hell, then return to Earth without memory of it, along with a secret never to be shared: every devil carries one sound from just before their death in Hell, the noise of Denji's chainsaw. In America, three part-time hunters and brothers weigh their new contract, killing Denji and shipping his body home for two million dollars. The youngest, Aldo, voices fear of dying, but the others remind him all three survived the Gun Devil's rampage, and the eldest calls them immortal as they ready to depart for Japan.

Notes

Collected in Volume 7, this chapter launches the International Assassins arc and was not covered by the early anime adaptation. It reframes Denji's celebrity as a global liability and seeds the recurring motif of his chainsaw haunting every devil in Hell, while introducing the American brothers as the arc's first wave of threats.
