Summary

The inheritance from Aki's will leaves Denji and Power able to rent a fresh apartment, where most of the cash goes to food. One night Denji slips out alone, buys some ice cream, and drops onto a bench. Seeing the word 'winner' on the stick, the thought that he killed Aki surfaces and he vomits at once. Stretched out, he dwells on the tangle of confusion and sorrow clinging to him since the death, and starts to speak to Pochita.

Before a word leaves him, Makima arrives. Brushing his hands, she warns that he is cold and tells him to get up. Lost in a daze, Denji does as told and is walked to her apartment. Her many dogs swarm the pair inside, and she fusses over them gleefully, stroking and chattering at them.

She sets out tea and tiramisu for Denji while still lavishing snacks and tummy rubs on the dogs. Watching her, Denji feels noticeably steadier and lighter, thanks her, and finds himself being petted in turn. Makima then raises the reward he earned for felling the Gun Devil: a single wish. After a moment's thought, Denji says his wish is to be kept like one of the dogs she pampers.
