Personality

Manjiro dreams of making it as a BooTuber and first tries filming his own headstands for the platform. Running the Tsuchinoko Shrine bores him, partly because it earns nothing, yet he still upholds the duty of keeping Byakuja Village's old rites for the Tsuchinoko buried. Somewhat slow on the uptake, he is genuinely surprised when Momo points out that narrating the Tsuchinoko legend would draw more viewers than balancing upside down. His manner stays flat and unbothered, and he freely conceded to Momo that the shrine is a sham.

History

Manjiro inherited the Tsuchinoko Shrine from his father and earned a living recounting the Great Serpent tale to visitors before training under Seiko Ayase. When Momo visits seeking the Tsuchinoko, he shows her its shed skin and relays the village legend. After the local volcano erupts, he steps in to shield Momo from the Kito Family, recognizing her as one of the children Seiko told him to watch over, then battles the Evil Eye possessing Jiji until his master arrives to seal it inside Taro. Across the following arcs he helps attempt exorcisms, ferries the group toward Shimane in his van, and at Seiko's instruction hands Okarun the Oni Club. Tasked with training the boy, he instead loads him with chores, later admitting he taught nothing real because BooTube had his attention.
