Jiji and the Evil Eye

Red Baron studies Jiji's new shape and his boast about handling the Evil Eye and the Evil Gun at once, concluding the boy must have merged with the yokai inside him. Jiji denies it: rather than fusing, he and the Evil Eye swap command of the body at tremendous speed, comparing the effect to a lamp blinking on and off, a trick they devised purely as a way to play together. Calling Jiji unchanged at heart, Red Baron breaks apart into smoke and pours through his nose into his lungs to smother him.

Jiji shoots an Evil Gun into the invading smoke yet still cannot breathe. The smoke, Red Baron points out, is not all his own body; he simply employs it as an instrument, and he notes how feeble the fused Evil Gun has become. Denied the chance to revert and clear his airways, Jiji faces Red Baron bursting from his mouth and nose with a threat to blow him apart on rematerializing.

With pressure building, Jiji remembers Seiko's guidance from the Typhoon Human battle: precise ki control should let him discharge an Evil Gun even through a barrier. He fires one clean through his own torso, ejecting Red Baron, then shields his nose and groin to deny any return path. The yokai dissolves to smoke once more, but a point-blank Evil Gun reveals that each successive hit trims the time he can hold his transformed state.

Seizing him, Jiji trades positions with the Evil Eye, who, livid that this foe loomed over Seiko, the woman who took him into her family, rains down blows that hurl Red Baron from Matsue Castle into a pond, leaving him senseless. Lifting Seiko, Jiji observes the Evil Eye went too far and notes a fully recovered Seiko could have beaten Red Baron without help.
