History

After Danzo Shimura's death, Root is dissolved and placed under investigation, and once its dealings become public its former members are cast out. Hakobe urges Sumire never to give up hope, yet her own health declines and she dies in despair, scorned for her family's ties. Her passing hardens her husband's resolve to avenge Root and his family against Konohagakure, a burden he later forces onto Sumire by branding the Gozu Tenno on her back before his own death. In the years that follow, Hakobe remains the brightest memory of Sumire's childhood, even as the sound of her voice slowly fades from recollection. In the end, recalling her mother's promise of a life free of their suffering and moved by the words of Boruto Uzumaki, Sumire lets go of revenge and chooses her own path. Hakobe's name, revealed only in the novels, can be written two ways that both refer to the stellaria plant.
