Sickness drained the color from her face, leaving her looking frail and washed out. The most distinctive feature she carried was a long nose, a trait that Usopp would later inherit. Her hair is drawn as straight and black within the manga, though the anime recolors those locks a darker shade of green. For clothing, she is shown in a collared shirt tinted a soft, faded green.

Warmth defined her. She held her family close in her heart and remained devoted to Yasopp, keeping faith that he would one day walk back through the door. That reunion never came. She also never got to witness Usopp grow up and chase the sea the way his father had, since an unnamed disease ended her life while her son was only a small child.

Roughly nineteen years before the present story, she and Yasopp welcomed their son Usopp. Not long after, Yasopp departed to sail with the Red Hair Pirates and follow his ambitions, leaving the boy to be brought up by a mother whose worsening illness eventually confined her to bed. To lift her spirits, Usopp repeated the same comforting fib each day, insisting that his father had come back to whisk them away, hoping the hope itself might mend her. She understood he would not return, yet near the end she told her son she was thankful he had set out to sea. Even once she was gone, Usopp went on repeating that story long after any reason for it remained. Fittingly for a household of seafarers, her name is an Italian word for a wharf.
