Carne

Stocky and of average build, Carne has brown hair, tanned skin, and the standard chef's whites worn by the rest of the Baratie staff, set apart mainly by his sunglasses. The timeskip changes his look: he grows his hair out, adds a goatee, and dons a taller chef's hat. He keeps the same uniform but switches to a striped ascot in place of a solid one, adds a fresh apron, and carries knives on his right side.

Carne is Patty's tightest companion aboard the ship and shares the same brawling-cook attitude, but he runs cooler and more careful, frequently checking his friend's hot temper and arrogance. He tends to know more about local matters too, including Don Krieg's background and methods. Toward Zeff he is utterly respectful, while his feelings about Sanji blend antagonism with a grudging measure of respect.

One of the restaurant's finest chefs, Carne specializes in charcuterie and meat dishes of every kind, trusted enough by Zeff to run the Nasugasira teppanyaki vessel. He is also physically formidable, having spent years driving off pirates who came looking for trouble, and during the Krieg Pirates' assault he and Patty cut down many of the enemy crew. In battle he wields a glaive-like polearm taller than himself. By Patty's account, the two of them cooked together for over a decade and were sacked from three hundred restaurants for their brawling before answering Zeff's call for damn cooks, becoming early Baratie hires. When Don Krieg attacked, Carne fought alongside the others, was floored in one blow by Pearl, and later helped pull Zeff to safety from Krieg's poison gas. He appears again after the timeskip presenting the Baratie's new ship and continues serving at the restaurant.
