Appearance

Armonia takes the form of a skeleton plated entirely in gold and hung with elaborate jewelry. He rarely leaves his ornate throne of stacked skulls, and a pair of translucent, insect-like wings sprouts from his frame. By the time of The a-Kira Story his body has been heavily rebuilt with mechanical parts, his left leg swapped out completely, and his throne can extend spindly insect legs to carry him about.

Personality

Among the Shinigami, Armonia stands high in the favor of the Shinigami King, who entrusts him with great responsibility. His peers seek him out for counsel, drawn by his formidable intellect and his total grasp of the rules that order the Shinigami Realm. He is often shown lounging on his throne with a cigarette, and Takeshi Obata characterized him as conceited. The artist modeled the jeweled, skull-laden design on Tibetan art and ornate Italian antiques.

History

Armonia supplies Sidoh with a set of scrolls laying out the laws that bind Shinigami when they deal with humans, guidance Sidoh leans on during his dealings with Mello in the living world; the anime omits the scrolls entirely. Years later, in 2019, he crosses into the human world to summon Ryuk before the King of Death, but when Ryuk presses him for a reason, he admits he has none and leaves. In the audio drama, billed simply as Justin, he receives a larger part: with the land of the dead folded together with the Shinigami world, he ushers newly departed souls through a sluggish bureaucracy, grumbling to L's spirit about the paperwork his early death created and failing to talk him out of seeking a return to life.
