Gyomei Himejima is a major supporting character in Demon Slayer and the Stone Hashira of the Taisho-era Corps. Blind since childhood and famously the strongest of all the Hashira, the soft-spoken former monk also mentors Genya Shinazugawa.
Gyomei is a towering, hugely muscular man, one of the tallest figures in the series, easily dwarfing his fellow Hashira. His skin is lightly tanned, his black hair is spiky and shaved at the sides, and a prominent scar runs horizontally across his forehead. Having lost his sight as a child, his eyes are white with no visible irises or pupils, and they often well with tears when his emotions stir.
He wears a heavily customized Corps uniform, fastened only at the lowest button with the sleeves rolled up, over a purple kimono. Draped across his shoulders is a distinctive olive-green happi bearing Buddhist iconography, and he carries a large set of red prayer beads. During his time as a monk he was shorter and thinner from malnourishment, having gone hungry so the orphans in his care could eat.
Gyomei is gentle, quiet, and deeply sensitive, a stark contrast to his intimidating size. Stoic yet perceptive, he speaks with both authority and warmth and is profoundly pious, carrying his beads and offering prayers in solemn moments. He weeps easily, even over trivial things, a softness born of his religious upbringing and his love for all living creatures.
He commands enormous respect within the Corps, both as a Hashira and as a symbol of reassurance, and Kagaya entrusted him to give orders to the others. Shaped by hardship before joining the Corps, he is cautious and slow to trust, yet utterly devoted once he opens his heart. He cherishes the principles that earned him his rank, rejecting Kokushibo's offer to become a demon and insisting on the dignity of living and dying as a human.
As the oldest, most seasoned, and most physically gifted Hashira, Gyomei is widely regarded as the single strongest member of the Demon Slayer Corps, a view voiced by both Tanjiro and Inosuke. Kokushibo himself noted he had not met a warrior of Gyomei's caliber in three centuries, and Gyomei was the only unmarked fighter able to challenge Upper Rank One without being completely overwhelmed.
His combat style is Stone Breathing, which he adapts to a spiked flail and axe joined by a chain, a kusarigama-style weapon forged from Nichirin steel. Blind, he relies on extraordinarily acute hearing to navigate battle, even detecting Muzan's regeneration by sound, and he later gains access to the Transparent World and awakens his Demon Slayer Mark. He possesses the greatest raw strength in the Corps, lifting boulders bare-handed, along with tremendous speed, stamina, and tactical insight that let him hold off Kokushibo and contribute decisively against Muzan.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle earned $778 million globally and nearly 40 billion yen in Japan, but it still couldn't top Mugen Train's domestic record. Here's why that barely matters....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
