In the Hashira Training arc, Giyu recounts his past to Tanjiro Kamado and recalls Sabito chastising him for speaking poorly of his life, words Giyu realizes would dishonor his sister's gift. Later, during the Infinity Castle arc, with Tanjiro knocked out in the fight against Akaza, Giyu steels himself by thinking of the two of them and vows not to let anyone close to him die again.
