Summary

The freshly turned Asakusa demon sinks his teeth into his own wife, and Tanjiro charges in to drag the man off, jamming fabric into his mouth to silence him. Spotting his real quarry, Tanjiro shouts at Muzan and swears he will not let him flee. Muzan, posing as an ordinary husband, calmly steers his alarmed family away, though he lingers on the hanafuda earrings Tanjiro wears.

Police arrive and, unaware of the man's true nature, try to pry the boy off the demon. Tanjiro clings on and begs them not to interfere. A wounded woman nearby tears at her own arm to draw blood, and an illusory pattern spreads over the scene, blinding the officers to Tanjiro. The woman steps forward with a young companion, admitting she is a demon herself and offering to help him bring Muzan down.

Notes

This chapter marks Muzan's first direct order to eliminate Tanjiro, dispatching Susamaru and Yahaba for the task. According to supplementary databook material, Tanjiro had actually come to Asakusa to track the demonic presence of Tamayo and Yushiro; the chance run-in with Muzan diverted him before he could. The chapter adapts into Episode 8 of the anime.
