Mitsuo Iwata

In Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, produced by the studio Ufotable, Iwata lends his voice to Toyo. The appearance is one entry in a career spanning more than four decades, during which he has become one of the most recognized names in Japanese voice acting. By the time he joined the production, he had already amassed a substantial catalogue of landmark roles across film, television anime, and games, bringing the experience of a seasoned performer to the part.

Born July 31, 1967, in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Iwata works as an actor, voice actor, and singer who has been active in the industry since 1977. His best-remembered role is Shotaro Kaneda in the 1988 anime film Akira, and he is also strongly associated with Kintaro Oe in Golden Boy, a performance for which he reportedly trained for months to the point of straining his voice, and with Tetsuya in Outlanders. Critics have repeatedly singled out his work, with one outlet calling him among the finest voice actors in the field. He was formerly affiliated with Office Osawa and Across Entertainment and is now with Aoni Production.

Iwata's contributions to the profession have earned formal recognition, including the award for Best Personality at the 7th Seiyu Awards in 2013. In addition to his voice work, he is active as a singer. In his personal life, he was previously married to voice actress Rikako Aikawa.
