Appearance

Melone cuts a slim, athletic figure of middling height, and he lets his straight hair grow long, spilling down past his shoulders. What marks him out most is his wardrobe, drawn from Venetian carnival style: a dark suit stamped with a concentric-circle pattern that omits the right sleeve along with much of the right flank. Completing the look are matching gloves and shoes, a see-through mask across his right eye, and, worn over his trousers, a pair of decorative chains that ride at shin height on either leg.

Personality

For the most part Melone carries himself politely, tackling each job with icy professionalism as he sizes up targets in body and mind, treating them less as people than as material for building his Stand. The anime leans into a lecherous streak, having him lick his lips over a woman's legs to the visible discomfort of his teammates. Whenever things meet or beat his hopes he crows "Di Molto," Italian for "by a lot," and even when a plan falters he keeps enough composure to call out tactics, being far from the danger himself. He ranks among the least aggressive of the series' enemy Stand users, preferring ambushes and snares, shrugging off reversals without violence and telling his Stand to run rather than press a fight.

History

Melone's Stand, Baby Face, is a humanoid figure shaped like a computer, and with it he spawns autonomous long-range Stands that carry the same name, steering them toward whomever he means to kill. To set one loose he first needs a drop of the target's blood and a woman to carry the newborn. Backing this up is his fluency in pseudoscience, which he leans on to gauge compatibility or predict a child's traits, and so to estimate how capable his creation will turn out.

He first appears scooping up blood spilled during Bucciarati's clash with Prosciutto and Pesci, then selects a short-fused woman aboard a train as the host to birth his Stand. Once it is alive he schools it to wipe out Bucciarati's group and seize Trish Una. As Baby Face corners the team inside Coco Jumbo, Melone relays commands from his computer, but the scheme rebounds: it lets Giorno both wound Baby Face and stumble onto Gold Experience's power to knit injuries shut through its life-giving touch.

His grip on the Stand slips, and Baby Face goes feral before almost burning to cinders. Ghiaccio soon calls him about the ruin, yet before Melone can grow a replacement, a cube of his own scorched Stand comes back as a venomous serpent that Giorno has animated; it sinks its fangs into his tongue and kills him out of frame.
