Evangelion Mark.4444C

Evangelion Mark.4444C is an autonomous, mass-produced weapons platform NERV deploys in Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time. A land-battle variant of the positron cannon occupies its center, braced by four upper Evangelion torsos that each steady the barrel with one hand while holding a glowing white ring around it. None of the four bodies has a true head; crude purple cabling joins each neck to a mask resembling an Angel's, inside which a red point of light glows before every shot. Green, white and red dominate the main bodies, with red hands, purple neck sections, and orange, white and red on the pentagonal arm plates. The whole assembly travels on four long rotating tentacles shaped like drills.

Rate of fire defines the machine. Rather than charging its own cannon, it draws power relayed from a formation of Mark.44B generator units into an ultra-high voltage system beneath it. Each discharge sets the red mask-lights blinking and produces the same sound, cross-shaped flare and rainbow halo as an Angel's beam, while the recoil shoves the entire platform backward, its front tentacles extending to full length to hold the main body steady. After the opening shot, the globe underneath glows red and subsequent beams emerge blue with rings forming around them. The tentacles double as gripping limbs, at one point seizing and twisting Unit-08 β-ICC while the platform raises an A.T. Field in its own defense.

It surfaces during the Paris Assault Mission, hidden with its Mark.44B battery behind a Camouflage Cocoon that drops once the Mark.44A swarm falls. Its first beam is turned aside by ships fitted with the Enchanted Shields of Virtue; the deflection hurls the vessels away, one of them striking the Eiffel Tower and snapping off its upper section. As the cannon accelerates into position for a second shot, Mari asks Nagara for a diversion, and the Wunder flings a ship at the platform while Mari charges it carrying the severed tower tip. Shielding itself and pinning Unit-08 β-ICC with its tentacles, the Mark.4444C twists her Eva's body, but Mari drives the tower section into the cannon using her unit's booster and rotating assembly. The crippled platform falls back, scattering its generators across the ground, and detonates in the cross and rainbow halo common to dying Evangelions. Its final trace is wiped away when Gendo's Spear of Gaius erases everything related to Evangelion.

The Mark.4444C runs autonomously with no pilot aboard. On its appearance at Paris, Ritsuko Akagi declares that customizing standard Evangelion units into dedicated military hardware puts NERV in violation of the Vatican Treaty. The name itself has been read as a count of Evangelion bodies, each 4 standing for one of the four torsos built into the weapon.
