Gongorō Kamakura

Character

Gongorō Kamakura is a former ninja who traded the shinobi life for stardom, becoming a celebrated action-movie lead best known for playing the masked hero Kagemasa. Stress once drove him to overeat and balloon in size, jeopardising his career until Boruto helped him find his footing again.

Appearance

Standing tall with pale skin, Gongorō keeps a mane of long, spiky white hair gathered into a high ponytail, with loose strands hanging beside each cheek, and his eyes are blue. Suited up as Kagemasa, he wears a black bodysuit fitted with red armour, matching red-and-black sandals, and sharp triangular orange visors. In peak condition he cuts a slim, handsome figure, though a bout of stress eating once left him plump and round-faced before he trained the weight back off.

Personality

Gongorō is fiercely proud of his craft and is known for a personal motto about letting deeds speak louder than talk. Pressure gets to him easily, though, and mounting anxiety once sent him into a spiral of compulsive eating that swelled his frame and started dragging down his performances. It took a nudge from Boruto, telling him to live by his own catchphrase, to finally snap him out of it and back into training.

History

Once Gongorō's weight gain put his signature film series at risk of cancellation, his frustration boiled over and drew the Shadow Spectre, a creature that seized control of him. Boruto, doubtful that this heavyset man was really the famous star, was attacked and nearly pinned before Sarada Uchiha intervened; together the two staggered him long enough for Boruto to knock him free of the possession. Taking the boy's words to heart, Gongorō committed to dieting and training, reclaimed his old physique, and salvaged his career.

Despite the scripted, choreographed fights of his films, he proves a genuinely dangerous combatant even out of shape: his taijutsu drives blows through concrete, his footwork makes him hard to pin down, and he can hurl heavy metal poles with enough accuracy to bury them in solid walls. He later surfaced on television, trim again, to promote a local park's prized carp, and while shooting another Kagemasa instalment he wrenched his back during a stunt. With Naruto away on a family trip, Konohamaru filled in for the Seventh Hokage's cameo, and when the assistant director was taken hostage during a bank robbery, Gongorō and Konohamaru stormed in wearing costume to stop the criminals on camera, turning the footage into a hit. On another occasion he was too deep in filming to be reached when Osuka was seized for ransom.
