Appearance

Slender, fair-skinned, and of average height, Hinata is marked most of all by the featureless white eyes of her Byakugan, rendered a pale lavender in the anime, and both Naruto and Toneri considered her beautiful. Her dark blue hair changes length across the story: cropped short in a bowl shape during Part I with strands framing her face, grown down to her lower back by Part II, and extended past her hips in The Last before she trimmed it back to a shoulder-length bob once Boruto reached the Academy. In Part I she typically wore a cream hooded jacket with fur-lined cuffs and hem over navy trousers, keeping her forehead protector loose around her neck. Part II saw her switch to a lavender-and-cream jacket worn over mesh armour, and she donned the standard Konoha flak jacket during the Fourth Shinobi World War. In adulthood her wardrobe grew more varied, and after marrying Naruto she often wore a light purple jacket over a white shirt with a necklace bearing the Uzumaki crest and her wedding ring on her left hand.

Personality

As a girl Hinata was gentle, polite, and endlessly considerate of others, so averse to conflict that her overwhelming kindness often left her frozen for fear of causing offence. Her father's relentless attempts to toughen her only deepened her timidity and eroded what little confidence she had. Everything shifted for her once she joined Team 8, whose members valued her strengths rather than dismissing her, and above all through her fascination with Naruto Uzumaki. She saw her own longing for acknowledgement mirrored in his, yet marvelled at his unbreakable faith in himself, and she adopted his refusal to ever give up as her own creed. Her devotion to him deepened into love, driving her to face Pain in his defence despite having no hope of victory and to steady him with his own words whenever he faltered. Two years after the war, having her feelings finally returned, she became far more open and expressive. As Naruto's wife and the mother of Boruto and Himawari, she turned down a jonin promotion to give her family her full attention, becoming a warm but firm homemaker whose newfound sternness could keep even her energetic household swiftly in line.

Abilities

Held back early on by her timid nature and once judged too weak for the role of heiress, Hinata earned steady praise from her team and clan as her training for Naruto's sake sharpened both her skills and her resolve. By adulthood she reached jonin-level ability despite declining the rank, and she decisively bested her sister Hanabi, an active jonin and the next clan head, in a match. As a Hyuga she can expel chakra from any of her 361 tenketsu and wields exceptional control, refined in the anime to the point of matching a medical-nin's precision. Her Byakugan grants near-360-degree penetrative vision with only a small blind spot, letting her scout, track, and see across vast distances, reaching some twenty kilometres by the battle against Toneri, and she can lend that pinpoint accuracy to allies.

Trained extensively in the clan's Gentle Fist style, Hinata targets an opponent's chakra pathway system and tenketsu with only minimal contact, constricting or severing their chakra flow, and she can apply the same skill gently, such as resetting a dislocated shoulder. In the anime she devised the Protecting Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, and by Part II she had learned the Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists, the Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm, and eventually mastered the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms itself. After inheriting a portion of Hamura Otsutsuki's chakra, her reserves swelled enormously, enough to replenish Naruto's drained chakra in an instant, a feat that had once taken Sakura three days. Beyond the Gentle Fist she occasionally used Fire and Lightning nature transformations and demonstrated medical ninjutsu, and by adulthood she became renowned as a master of the Gentle Fist, able to fell a target with a single strike to the tenketsu.
