Iwashi Tatami

Brown-haired and dark-eyed, Iwashi keeps a small goatee. He first appears in the plain grey button-up of the village's Intelligence Division, but afterward switches to the ordinary uniform of a Konoha ninja, complete with flak jacket and a forehead protector worn like a bandanna.

Colleagues describe Iwashi as a careful, systematic worker. In private he carries a certain arrogance, yet he keeps a more measured, low-key manner whenever others are around.

Details of Iwashi's fighting are thin, but his reputation rests on his mind: peers value his knack for collecting and managing intelligence and his ability to adjust quickly when situations turn. He was judged capable enough for an assignment his special-jōnin partners called demanding. In the anime he learned the Flying Thunder Formation Technique from the Fourth Hokage as one of the Hokage Guard Platoon, a space-time method he can only perform together with the rest of the guard. During the Chūnin Exams he screened footage of the Three Sand Siblings for Anko Mitarashi, remarking on how fast they cleared the second test and doubting they were ordinary genin. He later joined Raidō Namiashi, Shizune, and Genma Shiranui on a mission where the Sound Four badly hurt two of his comrades, and Shizune had to hold him back from charging in for revenge. Other assignments took him to warn Tsunade about escapees from prison, to escort peddlers into the Land of Vegetables, and to investigate a staged threat against Konoha engineered by Gennō. In Part II he attended Asuma Sarutobi's funeral and appeared briefly just before Anko sensed Orochimaru's apparent death. Credited as the guard platoon's third member during the Fourth Shinobi World War, he served on the Daimyō Protection Squad, watched Chōjūrō bring down Black Zetsu, and used the teleportation technique to send Mei to face the reincarnated Madara Uchiha before helping chase down a fleeing Mū. He stood with the Third Division as reinforcements arrived and was among those freed from the Infinite Tsukuyomi at the war's end.
