Appearance

Personality

A crafty old man, Kaneki does as he pleases and leans on his position to get away with it. Over the girl who died at his plant he feels not the faintest pang of guilt, heaping the fault on her instead. Behind the wealth and clout, though, sits a coward, laid bare when the Rain Killer comes hunting and he begs to be spared. He can concede a fault here and there, in the end taking help from Team 7 and from Kōtarō Fūma after having first driven them off in favor of his personal guards.

History

Bent on keeping ahead of competing firms, Kaneki drives a hazardous project through one of the chemical plants under his control despite plain warnings, and the ensuing explosion claims numerous lives. He dodges the fallout by fixing the guilt on the dead project head, Mikazuki Amaashi. The fortune he built against the rival Kaminarimon Company grants him genuine clout, enough to rebuff the police, sneer at their chief, and keep a small army of guards on hand.

Once the Rain Killer starts picking off everyone tied to the blast, Kaneki brushes aside an official protective detail, certain his own men suffice. Unknown to him they trail him regardless and foil one abduction, though a shift in the killer's tactics lets a second try land, and he is hauled to Mikazuki's grave. He lives only because Mitsuki bests Samidare Amaashi. Fresh charges land on him afterward, and the old explosion case is pried back open.
