Short and round in build, Komame has pale skin, a flattened face, and oversized ears. His black hair is clipped close at the sides while the remaining length is bound into a stubby tail on top, and his eyes are red. Over a beige buttoned shirt layered atop a black long-sleeve, he wears the post office's green flak vest bearing its emblem, finished with brown trousers and grey sandals.

Order and thoroughness govern how Komame approaches everything. He treats mail handling as a matter of real weight, growing livid over even one letter that goes astray, and he insists on seeing every task through. He also likes to remind others of his youthful shinobi studies, which he folds into how he manages the workplace.

Beneath the pride he takes in serving the village runs a streak of insecurity. When possessed, the resentment he harbors at being dismissed and disrespected boils to the surface, hinting that he privately questions his own worth.

Before committing to the postal service, Komame trained toward becoming a shinobi, and he never fully let the skills go, having picked up enough shurikenjutsu to speed up his mail sorting. That latent ability turns dangerous when the creature Nue takes hold of him. Possessed, he bends sheets of mail to his will, raising them into protective barriers and hurling them as projectiles.

His major appearance comes when Academy students Boruto Uzumaki, Shikadai Nara, and Mitsuki intern at the post office. He walks them through how deliveries work and sends them out with Tayori Kuroyagi, but a flood of complaints over Boruto's careless handling leaves him furious enough to demote the trio to inventory. Talked into a second chance, he is then stunned when the postal staff volunteer to help the youngsters patrol against the village's attacker.

While tidying the students' sloppy sorting, he is ambushed and possessed, his buried frustration at being disregarded erupting into a mail-flinging rampage. The students had expected exactly this. Some chase the masked culprit while the rest work to free him, held off by his letter techniques until Tayori's reminder of the service's importance steadies him and lets Boruto and Iwabee knock him out, driving the spectre away. Even waking in a hospital bed, his devotion holds firm as he tells Tayori to fix his hat.
