Shion

Shion's hair is a pale blonde that spills below her waist, gathered at the tip with a bow, and her eyes carry a soft lavender tint. In her ceremonial role she dresses in a matching lavender kimono and pins her hair beneath a golden crown. On the road with Naruto she trades this for a white top, an oversized mustard jacket, and red trousers cropped at the knee.

When her hidden power surges, crimson lines spread over her skin, her hair flushes pink and rises on end, a floating blue veil drapes her arms, and her clothing thins into a near-transparent yellow dress.

Raised as the sole daughter of the priestess Miroku, Shion spent her childhood at arm's length from everyone around her, since the deaths she foresaw made villagers dread her company. Only her mother stayed close. That upbringing left her spoiled and prickly. Early on she treats her own life as worth more than any other, waving away the sacrifice of guards who die shielding her and grumbling over trifles, from an uncomfortable ride on Sakura's back to food that fails to meet her taste. A streak of grim humour runs through her too, as when she needles Naruto over a vision of his beheading.

Naruto, having grown up an outcast himself, recognises the loneliness underneath and draws it out. Beneath the coldness sits a gentle girl weighed down by duty and by guilt over the futures she sees; she reasons that letting emotion show would betray everyone who has died for her. The journey changes her. She grows open and kind, warms to Naruto, and in the end asks him to stay and father a child so her line can continue.

On her mother's instruction Shion was never schooled in ninjutsu, a choice meant to spare her a normal life and to keep her formidable potential from ever being turned to harm. The trade-off is frail stamina that forces others to carry her over long stretches. What she does possess are two inherited gifts of the Land of Demons' priesthood. The first lets her seal demons away, a rite she trained in for years without knowing it was tied to Mōryō. The second forecasts a person's death: triggered involuntarily, it warns her past self of who surrounds her at the moment of danger so they are spurred to protect her. Across roughly a hundred such forecasts she had never once been wrong, until she deliberately broke the vision of Naruto's death by shielding him.

Miroku also left her a charmed bell that guards its bearer on its own, firing cutting beams of light, raising a shielding sphere, passing that protection to others, and letting her take on a radiant, angelic form. During the mission to reseal Mōryō, her escort of Naruto, Neji, Rock Lee, and Sakura carries her toward the shrine while the Gang of Four hunts her and the devoted Taruho dies in her defence. At the shrine her seal cannot hold, but she pours the bell's chakra into Naruto, and together they form a Super Chakra Rasengan powerful enough to obliterate the demon and collapse his lair.
