Jiraiya's Assignment

Grumbling about the punishing early hours, Naruto also gripes that Boruto misled him about being a ninja. Boruto counters that a covert job keeps him from revealing his real name or origins, and Naruto chooses to believe him. Jiraiya, who spotted how closely the two boys' chakra aligned during their previous fight, decides to coach them toward a shared technique, though even he cannot predict what sort of cooperative jutsu will emerge. Their first attempt fails, and Jiraiya lays out the requirement that chakra nature, strength, and flow all match. Since their natures already resemble one another, Boruto works out that only power and flow remain, earning a nod of approval.

Progress stalls because the memory of Naruto rampaging under the Nine-Tails still rattles Boruto. When Jiraiya asks what image they picture while syncing, he deduces that Boruto already knows the Rasengan, stunning Naruto. Realising that both of them visualising the same sphere would tighten their alignment, the pair are handed a rubber ball to burst. They only manage to swell it slightly. Jiraiya steps away on an errand and quietly clocks Sasuke watching the boys from a distance.

Drained of chakra and still haunted by the earlier attack, Boruto takes a break. Naruto notices his flinch and feels responsible. Wandering off, Boruto reaches the Hyūga compound and observes Hinata and Neji sparring. Neji, having caught sight of him, approaches, and Boruto asks why the cousins address each other with such contrasting formality. Neji shares a slice of their history, then senses Boruto is troubled and hears about his strained situation with Naruto. He advises Boruto not to pity Naruto and describes how the boy taught him that a person can shape their own destiny. Meanwhile, Jiraiya sends Sasuke to deliver food, and a conversation between Sasuke and Naruto leaves Naruto encouraged.

This installment is the 132nd episode of the Boruto series and belongs to the Time Slip Arc. Back in Konoha, Sakura collides with Sasuke, who hurries off, and a paper slips from his clothing into a puddle for her to retrieve and study. The chapter closes as Jiraiya reunites with Sasuke and directly asks whether he is who he suspects. The episode uses the opening theme Teenage Dream and the ending theme Wish on.
