Yūkimaru buys Guren the moment she needs to rise, and she slips clear just as the Three-Tails shakes off his hold. Rinji then drives a kunai into her before spiriting himself and the boy away, and the beast's Great Water Mass Bullet smashes into the cliff behind them. Told that Guren will not survive unless he reins in the turtle, Yūkimaru obeys until his chakra gives out. Rinji abandons them, and the boy resolves to guard Guren with his life, but she pulls him from harm's path and seals him inside her Crystal Release: Crimson Fruit while she faces the creature alone.

As Guren's teammates tend their wounds, Tobi watches unseen and slips off to fetch Deidara. On the shore, Lee, Shizune, Sakura, Tenten, and Ino are safe as Kakashi's group catches up to Naruto and Shino. Naruto sprints ahead and reaches Yūkimaru first, finding him locked in crystal and the Three-Tailed Turtle looming over them. His Rasengan glances off, as does Guren's Tearing Crystal Falling Dragon. Drowning and desperate, Guren converts her very life force into chakra to power her String of Glory, weathering the beast's water bullet and firing a prism into its eyes, which Naruto marks as the weak point and hammers with a Big Ball Rasengan.

Provoked, the turtle churns up a tidal wave that swallows both attackers. Kakashi and his squad arrive as the crystal casing around Yūkimaru finally cracks, and they carry the boy off, never noticing Kabuto seething nearby as he complains that they are wrecking Orochimaru's scheme. The episode continues the anime-original Three-Tails' Appearance arc.
