Shino tracks down a reincarnated Torune before he can loose a lethal kinjutsu, and the reunion of two boys once raised as brothers turns on the insects Shino secretly bred to withstand his old friend's venom.
Having slipped away from the Shinobi Alliance, the reanimated Torune seeks somewhere isolated enough to trigger a kinjutsu tied to his own abilities. Shino locates him through his kikaichu and moves to interrupt before the forbidden technique can fire. Meeting again, Torune asks whether Shino ever made a friend, and his mind drifts to their shared childhood: after Shikuro died, Shibi took Torune in, and the two grew up like brothers, Torune sharing his insects and later sparing Shino from Root by offering himself in his place. In Root, Torune found a companion of his own in Fu Yamanaka. Drawing on the taijutsu he honed there, he lands a sharp kick to Shino's midsection.
A Naruto clone arrives to pull Shino clear of the kinjutsu's reach. Shino warns that Torune's poison spreads through skin contact, so Naruto must not touch him. When Torune tries the Poison Cloud Technique, Shino's insects smother it. Naruto engages, snaps Torune's blade, and lands a Rasengan, and when Torune nearly strikes back, Shino steps between them and takes the blow himself, staying unharmed.

Set during the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation arc, the fight hinges on Shino's foresight.
