The Graduation Exam Begins!

Boruto's class sits the written portion of the graduation exam. Denki and Iwabee gloat over having lifted the questions from the teachers' lounge, and Boruto calls it cheating, but Sarada reminds him that Shino had told them to review the questions and plan ahead, framing the theft as a test of intelligence gathering. Shino grades the papers, Boruto scores perfectly, and Kakashi takes note, finding the boy overconfident. The following day, Shino, Anko, and Konohamaru meet the students at a forest and lay out the rules: each pupil wears a white bandanna, and targets are marked on the instructors. Losing your bandanna means failure, while destroying a teacher's target removes them from the fight.

Kakashi then reveals himself as the true proctor, intent on keeping any troublemaker from becoming a shinobi. He carries a single bell for the students to claim, hinting that only one of them will pass. When Boruto opens with a kunai strike, it hits a wood substitute, and Kakashi remarks how much Boruto resembles Naruto before starting the exam in earnest.

The students take varied approaches. Some rush Kakashi head-on while others hang back to use their peers as distractions. Shikadai plants a tracker on Kakashi, but Shino's bug removes it. Anko traps several teams in a genjutsu loop and moves to fight Shikadai, Inojin, and Chōchō, while Konohamaru downs Renga, Tsuru, and Hako along with Namida and Wasabi. Boruto declines to waste time on Konohamaru and heads for Kakashi with Sarada's blessing, only for Shino to block his path so Mitsuki can take him on.

Boruto baits Kakashi with a shadow clone from a giant tree, Anko's snakes press Shikadai's group until her freed captives arrive, and Mitsuki defeats Shino before urging Boruto onward. Kakashi rates Boruto a cut above his peers yet still unfit as a shinobi for lacking one decisive quality. When Boruto attacks with a Boruto Stream from underground, Kakashi substitutes clear, judges his skills to be at chūnin level, then slips behind him with genjutsu and pins him, treating it as the end of Boruto's exam.

The episode opens the Graduation Exams arc of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and reworks the classic bell-test premise, with Kakashi echoing his own Team 7 trial while pushing the new generation to prove themselves.
