The Results of Training (Boruto episode)

Promised a lighter sentence if he can beat Boruto, Shojoji is freed from his bindings by Kakashi, and the two square off. Boruto's Wind Release Rasengan bounces harmlessly off Shojoji's wind barrier, and the convict mocks the effort even as he admits the technique has grown stronger. The exchange shifts to hand-to-hand combat, with Boruto fending off attempts to be devoured before unleashing a tightly condensed new Rasengan that punches straight through the shield. Kakashi reasons the strike would have been lethal without the barrier, realizing the boy shrank his technique rather than enlarging it. The blast tears Boruto's bandages, briefly baring his Kama mark before he collapses.

In a parallel session, Sarada drills against Sasuke but cannot dodge his kunai without one being deflected for her, so Sakura steps in to test her daughter's resolve. Sarada's Sharingan cannot even track Sakura, whose overwhelming strength topples a large tree, and Sakura points out that poor chakra control drains her reserves quickly when paired with the eye. After stumbling repeatedly, Sarada tries one final approach, mirroring her mother's motions to sharpen her own chakra control until their blows meet with real force. Meanwhile, Log informs Orochimaru that the Hashirama Cell tied to Mitsuki's mission was stolen from one of his old laboratories, leaving him baffled about the culprit as he prepares to replace Mitsuki's ruined organs.

This 171st episode of the Boruto anime shares its title with Naruto: Shippuden's third episode but belongs to the Kara Actuation Arc. It aired in Japan on October 25, 2020, and in English on May 17, 2022, opening with Starting and Growing and closing with Central.
