The Two of Them… Always

Hagoromo lays out Team 7's predicament for the four Hokage and explains how his spirit surfaced from the half of Madara that was severed. He mentions a technique he can no longer use, having poured much of his chakra into Naruto and Sasuke. Obito, drained by the tremendous chakra he spent locating Sasuke, drifts back to thoughts of Rin, his boyhood wish to become Hokage, and his old contest with Kakashi, then steadies himself on the task of returning all three of them to the others.

Kaguya and Black Zetsu concentrate their attacks on the Naruto whose back bristles with Truth-Seeking Balls, several shadow clones guarding it. Kakashi frets that he is contributing little to the battle. Obito reappears carrying Sakura and Sasuke. Kaguya snares Naruto in her hair and cuts him down, but he too proves a clone, the genuine Naruto having handed off the Truth-Seeking Balls. She then tilts the battlefield into a high-gravity dimension that slams everyone, herself included, to the ground. Her bone attacks go wide because the crushing gravity spoils her aim; when she adjusts and fires again, Obito and Kakashi fling themselves into its path, both thinking of Rin. Obito deflects the bone bound for Kakashi with Kamui and is impaled in his place, telling Kakashi to hold on a while longer.

Hagoromo recounts to the four Hokage how his spirit manifested and why he cannot perform his old jutsu. Obito recovers Sakura and Sasuke. Naruto dodges Kaguya's strike using a decoy clone that carried the Truth-Seeking Balls. Kaguya shifts everyone into a high-gravity dimension, and when she attacks with bone spears, Obito uses Kamui to save Kakashi and is struck himself, urging his rival to stay a little longer.

The episode adapts manga chapter 686 during the Kaguya Ōtsutsuki Strikes arc and foregrounds the lifelong bond between Obito and Kakashi. It runs under the opening Blood Circulator and the ending Pino and Amélie. The title points to the two of them and the promise, tied to Rin, that keeps drawing their fates together.
