Overview
The Escort Unit was a top-tier group placed under the command of Konoha's Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju. It brought together the shinobi who made up Team Tobirama, namely Hiruzen Sarutobi, Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado, and expanded that circle with Danzō Shimura, Kagami Uchiha and Torifu Akimichi.

During the First Shinobi World War the unit was run down by a force of twenty Kumogakure ninja. Rather than let the whole squad fall, Tobirama chose to hold off the pursuers and lay down his life so the rest could break away. Before making that stand he named Hiruzen his successor, marking him as the Third Hokage. The others carried on thanks to his sacrifice.
