Appearance

Böse hides his whole head beneath a helmet, and heavy pauldrons stamped with a floral design guard his shoulders while a gorget shields his throat and chest. A dark, full-length cape hangs from his frame. Where his pale, ragged hair shows, it spills to his lower back, and his two thick horns angle downward before curling up, bending down again, and narrowing to their points.

Personality

Little is documented about Böse beyond a few telling moments. Like every demon, he takes deep pride in his own sorcery, and that pride curdles into fixation once Frieren tears through a barrier he believed impregnable. Singling her out as the only real threat, he loses track of her companions entirely, which lets Himmel land a fatal blow from his blind side. Böse can scarcely believe he has been beaten. As Himmel reads it, the demon simply thought too little of what humans could do.

History

At some point Böse rose into the ranks of the Sages and took the title of the Immortal. When the Hero of the South marched against demonkind, he fought alongside his fellow Sages and Schlacht the Omniscient, and he walked away from that battle. Years later, during the decade-long expedition of the Hero Party, he ambushed the group and sealed them inside his barrier magic, a lattice of square cells that Frieren deemed impossible for any human to break.

Even so, the heroes chipped at it together, and it was Frieren who finally dismantled it. Furious and fixated, Böse turned all his attention on her, which handed Himmel the chance to cut him down from behind. His defeat stunned him. In the years that followed, accounts of how the Hero Party felled the Immortal spread and were eventually gathered into books across the Northern Lands. His barriers, though regarded as unbreakable by mortal hands, were never wholly proof against force, and a sufficiently mighty hero or warrior could chip away at them.
