Appearance

Lawine is a youthful mage with blue eyes and gray hair worn long to the waist, blunt across the brow and bound at the tips with a ribbon; the strands beside her face are braided back and fastened behind her head. Her usual look centers on a ruffle-hemmed blue dress reaching mid-thigh, its deep V-neck laced over a white blouse and topped by a matching ruffled capelet, finished with heeled white boots laced to the thigh and bloomers worn beneath. Between the first and second stages of the exam she switches into a gift from her brothers: a belted white one-piece, a pale blue cardigan, blue flats, white socks, and a sun hat ringed by a blue ribbon, a coordinated handbag at her side.

Personality

Composure is Lawine's default setting, yet her patience burns through fast whenever her childhood friend Kanne is involved. The two bicker endlessly, and her irritation often boils over into sitting on Kanne and yanking her pigtails, but underneath all the friction she reads Kanne better than anyone, quietly admiring her diligence and kindness even when no one else is paying attention.

History

Lawine and Kanne came up together as students at the same Academy of Magic. The youngest child behind three older brothers, Lawine carried some resentment at always being measured against them. An early memory captures their bond: during a flight lesson over water, she stayed back with a terrified, frozen Kanne, coaxed her with compliments, and then simply booted her off the ledge, jolting Kanne into casting flight at last before joining her in the air.

At the exam in Äußerst she lands in the second party with Frieren and Kanne, the two friends squabbling before the test even starts. Lawine handles the team's ice work, freezing whatever water Kanne shapes; together they briefly trap a Stille, and later she ices over the central lake to herd the birds away. When the second and thirteenth parties clash, the earth mage Richter pins her and Kanne down, but once Frieren cracks the barrier and rain pours in, Lawine locks Richter's feet in ice so Kanne's strike can land.

In the second stage she and Kanne push deep into the Ruins of the King's Tomb, helped by intelligence from her eldest brother's advance team, and share what they know about the Spiegel with the others. Paired with Richter, she puts down the clones of herself and Kanne, then gets jumped by Sense's clone, and the surprise forces the two friends to burn their bottled golems and wash out of the exam. She takes the failure hard, though Kanne's quiet comfort steadies her, and the pair stay on in Äußerst in good cheer, vowing to return in three years.

Her magic runs cold by specialty: she bends ambient water into ice, including water others have shaped, and unleashes Nephtear, a volley of massive ice spears, alongside the standard flight and defensive spells.
