Zart, known as Zart the Remnant, is a demon mage who serves Grausam, who ranks among the Seven Sages of Destruction. Wielding magic that hurls foes through space to deadly falls, he guards the Goddess's Monument and ambushes the Hero Party when he senses a rupture in space-time.
A single horn emerges on the right of Zart's brow. He drapes himself in a long, loose-sleeved robe patterned along the collar and neckline, its waist gathered by a row of horizontal belts.
Like his kind, Zart brims with pride and faith in his own power, openly vowing to butcher the entire Hero Party. That air of superiority clings to him even when pressed, though he will admit when a fight turns against him. Cunning guides his approach, as he bends his magic to manufacture predicaments that force opponents to react on his terms, and a calculating eye keeps him studying his foes throughout a battle, gauging Himmel's speed and Frieren's exacting mana control.
Seven years into the Hero Party's quest, Zart stood watch over the Goddess's Monument that overlooks the Kino Mountain Pass, where he slaughtered a column of Imperial soldiers by lifting them and their carts high overhead to plunge to their deaths. Sensing a ripple in space-time, he turned his attention to the Hero Party nearby. As they inspected the soldiers' bodies, he revealed himself, traded words with Himmel, then slipped behind Frieren and flung her skyward, promising to spare her if the others laid down their arms.
A long-range strike from Frieren settled the matter, and the party chose to fight. She slowed her own plunge using a spell's recoil and rejoined them. After a combined blow from Himmel and Eisen wounded him, Zart pressed a hand to a cliff, wrenching a massive slab of rock into the air to drop on his enemies while he teleported clear. Frieren countered with magic drawn from the future to shatter the falling mass, then struck him down with Zoltraak before he could vanish. His spatial transference let him move himself and others through space on contact, flinging targets high enough that Frieren needed a full minute to fall back to earth.
