The eighth episode sees Frieren cut down the executioner Draht, refuse to defend the doomed town herself, and instead march out to meet Aura the Guillotine, while Fern and Stark are left to face the formidable Lügner.
Confident that his mana-laced wire has already won, the executioner Draht hangs Frieren by the neck, but she guards her throat with her own mana and stays utterly calm. Dismissing the current crop of demons as overconfident and green, she severs both his hands and finishes him in an instant, his body crumbling to nothing. Stepping out, she finds the cell guard beheaded and recognizes that the killing leaves her as the lone suspect.
Slipping out of town in a hood, Frieren intercepts Fern and Stark and lays out her plan to leave rather than hang for a murder she did not commit. When Fern protests that this abandons the town to the remaining demons, Frieren insists the two are more than a match for them and refuses to act as though strength alone decides a fight. She departs, having sensed an enormous source of mana roughly ten kilometers off, where Aura the Guillotine waits with her host.
Left on their own, Fern and Stark scale the walls into the mansion, where Lügner is interrogating the bound Graf Granat about the spell that governs the town's barrier. Stark frees the wounded lord, who urges him instead to evacuate the townsfolk, and is caught when Lügner and Linie return.
Stark throws himself at Lügner and is promptly pinned by the demon's blood magic, but his attack masks the real threat. Because the demons cannot sense Fern, she fires from a window and blows apart Lügner's arm. Stunned that a human slipped past Linie's detection, Lügner stalls by asking what spell she used. Fern names it as plain Zoltraak, which he rejects, since demonkind mastered that magic half a century ago.
With Granat badly hurt, the pair retreats, and Lügner stops Linie from pursuing, warning that the girl's spell would have killed her outright. He realizes the technique has been reworked to kill demons so precisely that it no longer counts as Zoltraak at all, and that Fern's style echoes Frieren the Slayer, the elf credited with spreading that very magic and with felling more demons than anyone in history.
The hour turns on the demons' devotion to magic. Lügner explains that each demon pours its whole existence into perfecting a single craft, as the Elder Sage Qual did with Zoltraak, which makes the inhuman genius of mages like Flamme all the more galling to him. A remembered image of Frieren observing Flamme set a barrier over a sapling ties that envy back to the town's defensive ward.
Smaller beats round out the siege. Lügner unleashes his signature blood spell to slaughter Granat's guards yet spares the lord himself, needing him alive to drop the barrier. Stark's nerves nearly undo him, from soaking his own trousers in fright to admitting his knees have gone weak, even as he forces himself forward. The episode ends with Frieren alighting before Aura's army of headless knights.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....
