Magic Potion

Little is firmly pinned down about magic potions beyond the basics. Each is a magical liquid, a mixture of magical ingredients held in a container and made to bring about some magical effect, and any well-supplied magic shop will carry them. The dearest examples owe their cost to scarce components, such as Holy Snow Crystals or unusual flora that herbalists gather.

The one potion ever given a name is a brew that dissolves only clothing, a pourable liquid kept in a flask. Frieren picked it up early in her travels with Fern and tucked it away inside her suitcase. Years on she settled on it as a gift for Stark's eighteenth birthday, calling it a treasure, but Fern deemed it crude and tipped most of the contents over Frieren instead, leaving her to grumble about wasting something rare and to hunt for a different present. When she tried once more to press the dregs on Stark that evening, Fern stopped her again. In a volume extra, Frieren does manage to hand it over, and Fern promptly brands the baffled Stark a pervert.

Mages are the usual buyers and handlers of magic potions, picking through shops such as Richter's in Aussert for the vessels lined up on the shelves. Frieren stands out among them, having spent her coin on the clothes-dissolving brew that Fern twice refused to let her give away. The same trade ties into everyday life as well, with Holy Snow Crystals and herbalists' ingredients feeding the stock a magic shop keeps on hand.
