Summary

In the domain of Graf Granat, the grieving lord brings the demon envoy Lügner before the untouched bedroom of his fallen son, meaning to avenge the young man killed a decade earlier in the war against Aura. Lügner defuses the threat with a fabricated tale of his own father dying at human hands, a story that softens Granat enough to weigh negotiation. The claim is pure deception, as Lügner privately confesses to the demon child Linie that their real aim is to coax the lord into lowering the protective barrier so Aura's army can pour in and raze the settlement.

Key Events

As that scheme takes shape, the demon boy Draht steals into the dungeon, cutting down the gate guard before reaching Frieren's cell. He announces himself as one of Aura's executioners and strings the mage up by the throat with a conjured wire, certain the kill is done. Frieren guards her neck by gathering magic there and dismisses the demon's crude method as the flailing of an infant. She severs the arm feeding the wire, takes the second when he spins out fresh strands, then drops onto him and removes his head, counting him as merely the first.

Notes

A small detail shows Linie biting into an apple, a sign that demons are not wholly dependent on humans for food. Frieren takes a marked interest in the wire magic Draht used, and she pays no heed to his wish to speak before dying. Titled Dorāto, the chapter opens the volume two stretch of the Aura the Guillotine arc and was adapted across the seventh and eighth anime episodes.
