Summary

Nearly three decades after Himmel dies, Frieren reaches Graf Granat's domain with Fern and Stark and instantly senses demons, lunging to kill them before the town guards wrestle her down. The intruders serve under Lügner, who presents himself as an envoy of peace, yet Frieren openly brands them beasts that merely ape human speech, a verdict that only makes Lügner smile. For the attempt on the so-called diplomats, she is locked in the mansion's dungeon.

Fern and Stark report what they have uncovered: Aura the Guillotine, a great demon who once stood among the Demon King's Seven Sages of Destruction, has warred on the town for years and now sues for peace, weary of the conflict. Frieren dismisses the overture as worthless, certain no negotiation with demons can hold, and when Stark argues for diplomacy she insists their words serve only to deceive. The dispute stirs a memory from her days with the Hero Party.

Key Events

In that recollection, the companions corner a child-like demon who has devoured a villager's daughter. Her whimpering cries for her mother stay Himmel's blade, and a sympathetic village chief offers her a chance to atone through honest field work, over Frieren's warning that mercy will be regretted. The demon lives among them for a time, even playing with the chief's daughter, until one night she burns his home and kills him, having groomed the girl as a replacement child for the grieving parents she had robbed.

Notes

Himmel severs the demon's hand before she can seize a new hostage, and Frieren strikes her down as she wails once more for her mother. With her dying breath the creature confesses that demons keep no families and learned the word only because it stops humans from killing, calling it a magic charm. The lesson made plain, Frieren resolves to break free once chaos erupts, while Lügner puzzles over where he has seen her and grins at finding the one person who grasps what demons truly are. The chapter debuts Graf Granat and Lügner, adapts into Episode 7, and bears Frieren, Stark, and Fern on its cover.
