Summary

Fern and Stark slip into the mansion to free Graf Granat, while Lügner presses the bound lord for the workings of the town's barrier and meets only silence. Convinced the secret rests in a grimoire, the demon goes searching for it, sneering that magic raised by the prodigy Flamme lacks the beauty he finds in relentless refinement. Stark uses the gap to reach Granat, but the enchanted ropes shrug off his axe, and the lord urges him instead to flee and save the townsfolk.

Key Events

Lügner and Linie return before the rescue can finish. Granat passes Stark off as a mere adventurer, and the demon coldly waves him away, only for Stark to dart behind him and split his shoulder. The spilled blood hands Lügner his counter, yet Stark shields his vital points and springs the real trap: Fern has been poised at the window. Her spell shears away the demon's arm along with a chunk of his torso. Stunned that a human slipped past Linie's mana sense, Lügner asks after her magic, and Fern names it the demons' own Zoltraak.

Notes

Lügner observes that Fern's craft has ceased to be a means for killing humans and has been sharpened instead into a weapon against demons, a refinement he once endured himself. The memory rises of Frieren standing atop a heap of demon corpses, and he places the morning's mage at last: Frieren the Slayer, the very breed of gifted talent he loathes. The twenty-one-page chapter carries the title Sōsō no furīren and was adapted in the eighth anime episode.
