Leaving Graf Granat shielded inside the church's barrier, Stark and Fern divide their tasks, he to bring Frieren back and she to move the townsfolk to safety. Before they part at the wall, Fern realizes the blood streaking their clothes still carries circulating mana, but the warning arrives too late. Lügner's blood magic spears her shoulder and pins her to the stone, while Linie ambushes Stark from behind and flings him through the wall into the forest below.

Sprawled on the ground, Stark is shaken to see Linie wielding the very techniques of his master, Eisen. Up on the ramparts, Lügner interrogates Fern over Frieren's location, brushing off her claim that the mage fled in fear, since he knows her hatred of demons far too well. As he turns away to puzzle over Frieren's true target, Fern quietly floats her staff back into her grip, slips his hold, and trains it on him. Remembering Frieren's lesson that her real gift is the speed of her casting, Fern meets the demon's boast of a life given to magic with one of her own, then looses an enormous spell at point-blank range.

The pendant Granat entrusts to the pair matches one worn by a figure in Aura's undead host, taken to be the lord's lost son. Lügner's command of blood proves precise enough to rebuild the portions of himself that Fern had earlier blown away. Titled Kyūshū, the chapter was adapted in the ninth anime episode.
