Summary

With the barrier gone, Denken senses a demon rivaling Macht in power and realizes the gilder is loose, prompting the group to begin evacuating as the Golden Land spreads outward. Inside Weise, Solitär meets the indifferent Macht and offers to aid his search for emotion, intending to prove that demons and humans cannot live together. Outside, traveling by wagon with the sleeping Frieren, Fern and Stark break away to confront the new threat and leave the villagers and their unconscious mage in Denken's hands.

The pair meet Solitär, who claims she would rather talk and learn than fight and names herself a Greater Demon. The unfamiliar name alarms Fern, who reasons that Solitär must be a nameless one, recalling Frieren's warning to run from such demons at once, since they go unnamed precisely because none who faced them survived. Solitär insists she has lived in seclusion and never killed, but both fighters smell death on her and reject the claim.

Fern opens with Zoltraak, which Solitär blocks using human defensive magic, her command of mortal spells catching the young mage off guard. As Solitär peppers them with curious questions, Fern presses another attack, only for a massive triangular blade to pierce her shoulder and the sky to fill with countless more. Solitär warns that further resistance will cost them their arms, and Stark knocks one blade aside and shouts for Fern to flee, while the demon praises their nerve and asks them to teach her about humankind.
