Chiaki Hasada

Chiaki is a boy who stands notably tall for seventeen, with a fair complexion and an expression that usually settles into something flat or unreadable. His eyes are dark and sharp, and his light, cropped hair sits in slight spikes with bangs that fall across the right side of his face.

The blank look is misleading, because Chiaki is an easygoing sort who works well with almost anyone. He puts a high value on teamwork, leaning on his fellow council members as readily as they lean on him, and he ranks among the most conscientious of the group, seldom caught slacking. That sense of duty leads him to shoulder extra work, since he finds Mutsuki unreliable, and while Hajime and Mutsuki's constant squabbling wears on him he tends to let it slide.

He is close enough to the council and the wider Sohma circle to have visited their holiday house and earned an invite to Michi Manabe's sukiyaki gathering, and beneath the seriousness he enjoys a bit of dry, deadpan fun.

A cold kept Chiaki home when the school term opened, so he was out for a stretch before rejoining his council duties. He greets Sawa warmly on his return and jokes at her expense over having glimpsed Mutsuki's chaotic desk. He would have liked to attend Michi's sukiyaki party but bows out because his family is having gyoza that night.

Around the office he takes on a senior's role toward Sawa, handing her tasks and cheering her on, and he admits he tends to overextend himself because Mutsuki is so unpredictable. When the group plans a trip to the Sohma villa, he cheerfully insists the place is amazing on the grounds that a bear named Jason lives there, a claim that leaves Hajime dismayed.
