Motoko Minagawa

Motoko wears her hair long, cascading down to her waist and almost always dressed up with bows. She is scarcely ever shown out of her school uniform. The manga and 2019 anime give her deep indigo-blue hair and matching navy eyes, whereas the 2001 adaptation colors her hair light brown and her eyes purple.

She pours her feelings for Yuki into poetry and treats anyone near him as a threat, branding Tohru a witch, Arisa a delinquent, and Saki a demon. She regards even her fellow club members as cruel and wicked, insisting that she herself is the cruelest and most hated of them all. Only after finally confessing to Yuki does she manage to find a measure of contentment.

Motoko first appears demanding to know why Tohru has been walking with Yuki, her club members echoing her behind her; the group scatters once Arisa and Saki step in to defend Tohru. Determined to eliminate any rival for Yuki's attention, she later leads Minami Kinoshita and Mio Yamagishi to Saki Hanajima's home under the pretense of studying her powers, hoping to expose a weakness. The scheme collapses when they meet Saki's younger brother Megumi, who can curse people through their names, and the girls flee the moment he reveals he already knows theirs.

By her third year she gathers the nerve to confess to Yuki, and after seeing how genuinely Tohru makes him smile she comes to accept that no one is more deserving of his love, holding a quiet respect for her former rival. In Fruits Basket Another she has married and become the mother of Ruriko Kageyama, who leads a fan club devoted to the entire Sohma family.
