Okami Sohma

Okami keeps her black hair pinned up in a loose, untidy bun, with stray strands falling across a face that usually looks weary or strained. Her fragile health leaves her skin pale, and in the anime it can even take on a bluish cast when she feels unwell. The 2001 adaptation renders her hair dark green and her eyes brown, while the manga and 2019 anime give her black hair and green eyes.

In temperament she closely mirrors Ritsu, sharing both his delicate constitution and his compulsion to apologize for the smallest things. She is among the few Sohma parents who wholeheartedly accepts a cursed child, speaking warmly not only of Ritsu but of Momiji as well. Oblivious to how her frantic, overblown fits of apology unsettle everyone around her, she tends to leave the visiting cast, Kyo especially, thoroughly exasperated.

She first appears when Tohru, Kyo, Yuki, and Momiji visit the Sohma Hot Spring for White Day. At first she frets that an outsider has learned of the curse, but once she meets Tohru she is won over by the girl's warmth, remarking on how differently Kyo and Yuki behave around her and asking whether Tohru might befriend her own son Ritsu as well.

She is later seen startled when Ritsu drops a flower vase, unaware that the moment marks the breaking of his curse. She worries over Ritsu constantly and, according to Shigure, is the parent from whom he inherited his anxious, self-effacing nature.
