Sure Thing

A new academic term gets underway, and Yuki begins shouldering the duties that come with leading the student council. The half hour splits its attention between the returning cast settling back into class and the rat's uneasy first steps among a council that does not yet make sense to him.

Back in the classroom, Arisa Uotani greets Kyo with a punch, annoyed that he shot up in height over the break, while Saki Hanajima reads that her friend's sour mood really traces to Kureno, the shop clerk she likes, having stopped coming around. Yuki receives sweets from his fan club and meets Kimi Toudou, who needles him with the nickname Yunyun that she picked up from vice president Kakeru Manabe. Watching the council bicker leaves Yuki doubting he can ever connect with any of them.

While touring the school's clubs, Yuki agrees to lend a hand to the short-staffed gardening group. Kakeru tags along and prods him about Tohru Honda, warning that any feelings there point toward heartache since Kyo already behaves like her partner. The jab sparks a spat, and Kakeru boots the seedling crate out of Yuki's arms. Yuki admits aloud that his true enemy is his own habit of measuring himself against people such as Kakeru, his brother Ayame, and Kyo. Kakeru softens, kneels to gather the seedlings, promises to support the gardeners, and confesses he wishes he could be more like Yuki.

The installment lifts its name from a remark by Kakeru Manabe and brings both Kimi Toudou and Naohito Sakuragi into the story for the first time. Its script draws on the leftover portion of Chapter 66 together with Chapter 73, compressing the two into one timeline and trimming several exchanges, including a cut bit where classmates tease Tohru about a supposed date and a flashback of Yuki discussing the club's flowers with her.
