Another: Bonus Manga 2

This installment closes the second volume of Fruits Basket Another as the fourteenth chapter overall. Yuki sits down with his son Mutsuki and finally speaks about his own years bound to the Rat and the curse that once ruled the Sohma household.

Mutsuki treasures a memory of heavy snowfalls, when he, his mother Machi, and his father Yuki would rise early, join hands, and press rows of footprints into the white before sharing breakfast as a family. That warmth made the harder truths land all the more heavily. Once he started middle school, his father told him about the Sohma line, the curse, and his own past as the Rat. The revelation matched a lingering unease Mutsuki had always felt, sharpened by having watched Ren lunge at his relative Shiki with a knife, only for Shiki's mother Akito to shield the boy and take the wound herself.

Rather than let the family's history weigh him down, Mutsuki resolves to carry on toward his own future. Grateful for everything his parents have given him, he tells Yuki plainly that he is happy the two raised him, glad to live with them, and that their home is the place he always wants to return to because it has stayed warm and full of fun. The words move Yuki to tears, and Machi comforts him, teaching Mutsuki that people can weep out of happiness too.

The snowy footprint ritual traces back to Chapter 102, where Yuki made a promise to Machi to walk through the snow together. A shuttlecock drawn in the background during Mutsuki's heartfelt speech nods to Yuki's high school badminton games, underscoring that Yuki once longed for exactly the family bond he could later give his son, which is why he breaks down in tears of joy.
