Chapter 5

Kagura turns up asking Tohru whether Kyo is really staying there, lighting up at the confirmation, all while Kyo grumbles to Yuki about hating leeks and Shigure looks on. Once inside, she tearfully demands to know where Kyo vanished to for four whole months, then her weeping snaps into a savage attack as she flings him around the room out of pent-up worry. She reveals herself as one of the twelve Zodiac Sohmas, showing wildly swinging moods, and unlike the others she can embrace the male members without setting off their transformations. Set on marrying Kyo, she vows to cook for him daily and to look past any straying. Later, hanging laundry on the roof, Tohru comes upon Kyo and grasps his exasperation with Kagura's marriage talk; hearing him praise the master who trained him in the mountains, she glimpses a softer nature beneath his temper.

Kagura arrives and assaults Kyo over his four-month absence. She is confirmed as a Zodiac member who can hug male Sohmas without triggering a change and who openly wants to marry Kyo. On the roof, Tohru sees Kyo's gentler side and admires Kagura's devotion. As Kagura departs she transforms into a small pig. Tohru is then told her grandfather's home is renovated and feels the sting of possibly having to leave the Sohmas.

This is the fifth chapter of the first volume and the fifth of the series overall. Kazuma Sohma, the master Kyo speaks of so warmly, is mentioned but does not appear. Tohru comes away wishing she could see the good in those she cares for the way Kagura does. Arisa, Tohru, and Saki appear on the cover.
