The sixty-fifth chapter closes out Volume 11 with Tohru's dreaded meeting with Akito, where the truth comes out: Akito is the deity at the heart of the Zodiac, holding sway over the thirteen cursed Sohmas. Warned to stay away, Tohru instead vows to shield them.
The confrontation Tohru has been bracing for finally arrives. Standing before Akito, she comes to understand the real weight of the figure in front of her, the god of the Zodiac who commands the thirteen other cursed members of the family. Akito issues a threat, promising retribution should Tohru try to place herself between that bond and the Sohmas. Undeterred, Tohru answers with a pledge to protect every one of them.
Tohru learns the nature of Akito's role as the Zodiac's central deity. Akito warns her against interfering and threatens punishment. Rather than back down, Tohru swears to safeguard the cursed Sohmas. Kyoko surfaces briefly in memory, and a broad set of Zodiac members, from Kureno and Hatori to Hiro and Kisa, fills out the chapter.
