Wrath

He has the frame of a young boy topped with shaggy black hair that spills past his shoulders and hangs down the sides of his face to the collarbone. Slit-pupiled violet eyes and pale skin round out the look, though his left leg and right arm stand apart as borrowed limbs that once belonged to Edward. Early on he wraps himself in rags transmuted from leaves; Izumi Curtis later gives him proper clothing, and after he is fed red stones he adopts a look close to Envy's, a sleeveless black cropped shirt paired with tight black shorts. Once Edward reclaims his original limbs, Winry and Pinako Rockbell replace them with automail.

Wrath starts out shy and skittish, hiding in the shadows and bolting the instant he is spotted, but living among Izumi and the Elric brothers coaxes out ordinary boyish curiosity and play. That softness curdles after Envy, disguised as King Bradley, abducts him and feeds him red stones; he turns bitter, openly hating the mother he blames for his unfinished life while sneering at Edward for playing god. Among the homunculi he clings fiercely to Sloth, casting her as the mother he craves in Izumi's place and growing vengeful toward anyone who harms her. Her death unravels him into desperate, doomed efforts to bring her back. By Conqueror of Shamballa he has let go of Sloth and mourns Izumi instead, finally choosing to sacrifice himself so the Elrics need suffer no further, a last flicker of humanity from a child who only ever wanted a mother's warmth. The cry of a wailing infant reliably freezes him, a lingering wound from his own passage into the Gate.

In the 2003 continuity Wrath is the reborn form of the stillborn son of Izumi and Sig Curtis. When Izumi's attempt to revive the baby produced something that was not entirely her child, the infant was given to the Gate, where it aged for years as its resentment toward the mother who abandoned it swelled. As the Elric brothers botched their own human transmutation, this being seized Edward's right arm and left leg, gaining the rare ability to perform alchemy without a circle. He later forced the Gate open himself, lost his memory, and washed up on Yock Island, where Izumi forgave him and took him in. Captured by the military and found by Envy, he was fed red stones and drawn into the homunculi's ranks, latching onto Sloth as his surrogate mother.

His homunculus gift is the power to merge and fuse his body with nearly any material, living or dead, and to speed that fusion through alchemy. He turns it deadly, absorbing a fragment of Trisha's remains and exploiting the paralyzing nearness of a locket to kill Lust. When he later fuses with Sloth to keep her forever, his tainted contact leaves her defenseless against Edward, who converts her liquid body into ethanol and evaporates her, badly burning and scarring Wrath in the process. Rejecting Izumi's pleas to leave with her, he keeps begging Dante and Envy to revive Sloth with the Philosopher's Stone until Dante opens the Gate using Rose's baby and has its children tear away his borrowed limbs. Stripped of his alchemy, he still turns on Envy long enough to help Edward, then goes to live with Winry and Pinako, fitted with automail. In Conqueror of Shamballa, Winry finds him despondent near Izumi's grave and repairs his failing automail; he leads Alphonse to the underground city, lures a monstrous Gluttony onto a transmutation circle, and lets himself be devoured so his brother can return, reuniting whole with Izumi at the Gate as he and Gluttony die together.
