Chapter 29: The Eye of the King

Führer President Bradley and his soldiers sweep through the Devil's Nest sparing no one, pushing the last survivors, including the chimera Loa and Dorchet, down into the lower levels for a final stand. Below ground, Edward keeps trading blows with Greed and absorbs most of the punishment, since the homunculus shrugs off nearly any wound, yet he refuses to quit. When Major Armstrong confronts the chimera, Loa abandons his useless hammer and fights with his beastly gifts alone. Word spreads that Bradley himself is leading the assault, catching the lower-level defenders off guard. As Dorchet and Loa move to retreat, Bradley ambushes Dorchet and runs a sword through his heart, then cuts down a charging Loa without mercy.

Refusing to surrender, Edward finally spots a genuine weakness in Greed and exploits it. Dismissing the first hit as a fluke, Greed keeps pressing, which is exactly what Ed wants, until Greed realizes the flaw is real and decides to flee. Soldiers seize Edward before he can pursue. In the tunnels Greed encounters Alphonse with Martel still inside him, and as they discuss escape, Bradley appears and refuses to let Greed pass. Confident he can best the aging Führer, Greed engages him, only to end with Bradley's blade through his throat and the ouroboros tattoo revealed inside the leader's usually patched eye.

Greed's Ultimate Shield cannot operate while he is regenerating, and it draws its strength from the carbon in his own body. Loa once served in the Ishbalan extermination campaign. Armstrong's mercy is cited as the reason he has never been promoted higher. Bradley is shown to possess a power of his own, the Ultimate Eye.
