You Don't Know Anything!

The second half opens on Rossiu's narration, seven years after the capital fell. Kamina City has risen from Teppelin's ruins, Old Coco has quietly been exposed as a Beastman, and the deep questions, what Spiral Power really is and why Lordgenome caged mankind underground, remain unanswered. Somewhere unseen, a counter ticks upward.

Simon now serves as Supreme Commander, buried under documents his Chief Advisor Rossiu keeps piling on. Nia brings him lunch before a council session attended by Kittan, Dayakka, Iraak, Kidd, Zorthy, Jorgun, and Balinbow, where Leeron reports that a probe rocket will reach the moon within a day. The mood sours when Jorgun cannot account for the census he supposedly runs; Rossiu berates the room and receives authority over the Citizen Affairs Bureau. The old guard grumbles about him afterward over pig mole steaks in a restaurant owned, in gaudy new wealth, by the former chief of Simon's home village.

Nia confides to the pregnant Kiyoh, now married to Dayakka, that Simon proposed and that she declined out of sheer confusion over the words. Kiyoh's advice is to answer from feeling rather than vocabulary, and by phone Nia joyfully accepts; Simon takes the call before the Kamina statue, remembering Yoko's long-ago departure from the city. The moment breaks with news that Viral is battling the Grapearl Squadron. Its commanders Gimmy and Darry defeat and arrest him. Viral insists he was defending underground-dwellers hauled to the surface against their will and accuses Simon of walking Lordgenome's path; Rossiu dismisses the justification. When Simon questions the forced relocations, and asks what becomes of the millionth human, Rossiu murmurs that Simon understands nothing.

In a laboratory, Guinble reports the Biocomputer's successful activation and flatters Rossiu as the only force keeping government running while Simon and the council grow soft; Kinon and the researchers salute him. That night Nia calls from the hospital: Kiyoh has delivered a girl, Anne. Inside the moon, the hidden counter strikes one million. A portal tears open above the city and a faceless machine pours energy beams into the skyline. The phone line dies, glowing red circuit lines crawl across Nia's body as she screams, and Kiyal later finds nothing but her dropped phone.

Guns and blades break uselessly on the intruder's barrier, and the Grapearl Squadron is picked apart until only Gimmy and Darry survive; the old Gunmen are no option, scrapped years ago as relics of the Spiral King. A beam meant for Darry is stopped by a drill: Simon has sortied in Gurren Lagann against Rossiu's orders, answering that the city's safety outranks his job description and that the old cockpit is the one place he can be himself. He destroys the machine with a Giga Drill Break, only for its glowing fragments to detonate across the surrounding blocks, and Rossiu coldly observes that Simon attacked blind. Then Nia's holographic image fills the sky, declaring on behalf of the Anti-Spirals that humanity has reached Spiral Power Danger Level Two and that the Humanity Extermination System is now active.

The timeskip begins: Kamina City stands on Teppelin's ruins, with Simon as Supreme Commander, Rossiu as Chief Advisor, and old teammates filling the council.

Simon proposes to Nia, who accepts after initial confusion; Kiyoh and Dayakka are revealed as married, and their newborn daughter Anne becomes the millionth surface human.

The Grapearl Squadron debuts under Gimmy and Darry, permanently disabling the Enkidudu and arresting Viral.

The first Mugann attacks, its death throes wrecking part of the city; Nia is possessed by the Anti-Spirals and the Humanity Extermination System activates.

From this episode onward Bridget Hoffman voices Nia in the English dub, replacing Hynden Walch, who stepped away due to personal circumstances.

The dense opening act also delivers Old Coco's exposure as a Beastman and the debuts of Guinble and Cybela.
