Chapter 37: Cold Rain

Cold Rain, given in Japanese as Ame nochi Hare, centers on a wet night that Hori and Miyamura share at her house. It begins with their classmates chatting about the couple, as Yuki Yoshikawa and the other girls trade fond observations about the boyish, unpolished habits of boys, a topic Akane Yanagi cannot quite grasp. The talk eventually lands on Miyamura, and the group decides that he only sits through scary films to keep Hori happy.

That evening the two settle in with a horror movie, and Hori tries to look adorable by playing at being frightened. Miyamura, however, is so absorbed and genuinely spooked that any sudden word or touch makes him flinch. When Hori reaches for his hand he jerks away, then hurries off to splash water on his face and quietly breaks into tears. Believing she has ruined the mood, Hori retreats to bed upset.

When Miyamura returns and grasps what she had been attempting, both apologize until he tells her plainly that he did not fall for some ordinary girl but for her, and that he loves her exactly as she is. They finish the film as the downpour grows heavier, resting their ears against each other's chests to hear their heartbeats, and the scene fades with the pair together while the rain keeps them from parting.

The following morning leaves little doubt that the two have become intimate. A subplot then follows Hori's younger brother Souta, who returns a school pin Miyamura had lost. Reassuring the worried boy that he is not taking his sister away but stepping in as an older brother, Miyamura shares a hug with him, unaware that Hori is listening happily from behind the wall.

The chapter carries a memorable line from Hori about wanting to somehow share her warmth with Miyamura. It ran in the seventh 2014 issue with a cover date of June 18, 2014, and gathers into the sixth volume. Its featured trio consists of Hori, Miyamura, and Souta, with HERO writing and Daisuke Hagiwara illustrating.
