Betsy Wilkins

Betsy is a fair-skinned, middle-aged woman with brown hair of medium length, parted to either side from the crown. She favors a pink shirt marked by a white stripe that divides its darker and paler sections, worn under a light gray overshirt. A green bracelet sits on her left wrist and a necklace ending in a bronze leaf hangs at her throat, and she rounds out the look with yellow shoes.

Betsy is markedly more level-headed than her husband, though she frets that her daughter's superhero life is too dangerous. Her worry always centers on Eve's wellbeing rather than appearances, and she often stands silent while Adam lectures the girl, only to comfort her afterward. To protect Eve she learns to steer Adam's decisions, framing a gifted-school enrollment as a boost to the family's standing so he will agree.

Deeply submissive, she feels trapped in a marriage she calls merely good enough and quietly dreads that Mark might turn out like Adam. She speaks in a blunt, faintly cynical way and lacks social polish, repeatedly apologizing after her words land wrong, as when she tells Mark how relieved she is that Eve survived when her own childhood friend Val did not. In the comics her husband attributes his control over her to her lack of confidence, and in the series that same timidity keeps her quiet through his outbursts.

Betsy meets Adam in her youth, marries him, and the couple looks forward to a child of their own. After the anguish of a stillbirth, a nurse appears with a newborn she says survived, and the grieving pair embrace the miracle, naming the girl Samantha Eve; unknown to them, their child was swapped for a superhuman infant hidden by Dr. Elias Brandyworth to keep her from a government that wanted a weapon. Betsy and Adam raise Samantha with affection, puzzled by her fixation on molecules, which she draws and builds with LEGOs and uses to tutor her babysitter Zak. Recognizing the girl's brilliance, Betsy talks a reluctant Adam into a school for gifted children, though Samantha struggles socially there, loses her only friend Val after revealing her powers, and is moved to a public school. On a lonely twelfth birthday, Betsy comforts her daughter after a bitter argument with Adam.

Both parents disapprove of Samantha's heroics, tolerating them only because she has a team and dates Rex Splode. When the fallout in Chicago costs Adam his job and forces him into work at Burger Mart, he stubbornly refuses Eve's help, and an accident caused by her powers seems to prove his fears, prompting Eve to return home. During the Invincible War, Betsy and a curt Adam visit the recovering Eve at the GDA hospital, and soon after, when Conquest arrives, Eve defies their pleas to stay and leaves to protect Mark, whom they learn is her boyfriend.
